Education regarding prevention and correction of occlusal alignment and irregularities in the teeth and jaw position, often by the use of orthodontic intervention

Topics may include:

  • Growth and development of occlusion
    Educational topics related to all aspects of growth and development of the occlusion and includes development of malocclusion
  • Diagnosis and treatment planning
    Case workup includes imaging, models, articulation and analysis to come to a diagnosis and treatment plan to correct malocclusion.
  • Interceptive orthodontic therapy
    Topics regarding the treatment in mixed dentition to alter eruption and minimize malocclusion in the adult dentition.
  • Functional orthodontic therapy
    Topics regarding the use of brackets and wires to mechanically move teeth to produce a better occlusion.
  • Removable appliance therapy
    Education regarding the use of removable appliance or clear aligners to move teeth and bone to correct malocclusion.
  • Surgical orthodontics
    Topics related to the use of surgery in combination with mechanical tooth movement to gain an ideal occlusal arrangement. I.e.: Sagittal split osteotomy, LeForte osteotomy, etc.
  • Emerging concepts, techniques, therapies and technology
    New technology/procedures used in any aspect (diagnosis or treatment) of orthodontics.
  • Product/technology training
    Training on proper use of specific products/instruments developed to aid in the diagnosis or orthodontic treatment of teeth. Product training courses should be directed to current users or a product and focus on proper/safe use.  Courses cannot contain any marketing information intended to encourage participants to purchase the product.  Orthodontic product training could include: ClearCorrect®, Invisalign®, Six Month Smiles® and others.
