This Week at AGD

This year’s Convocation Ceremony was striking because of the number of spouses, siblings and family members who were honored together.

AGD2021, AGD’s annual scientific session, was held June 9–12 in Austin, Texas. The meeting was a hybrid event, which included in-person and virtual courses. Nearly 150 courses, including 52 sold-out courses, were presented to over 2,600 registrants.

During AGD2021, the AGD Foundation was able to provide oral cancer screenings to employees of the host hotel, Fairmont Austin, as well as to AGD2021 attendees. The Foundation raised over $22,000 through its electronic silent auction.

Recently, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, through the Health Resources and Services Administration, announced that it is releasing revised reporting requirements for recipients of Provider Relief Fund payments.

Rising dental school debt and provider shortages in underserved areas are two major issues facing dentistry. For dentists, federal debt relief programs reward service to vulnerable populations with debt repayment. For underserved communities, the placement programs provide much-needed care.
