Understanding the severity of the use and abuse of opioid medications, AGD developed the white paper, "The Role of Dentistry in Addressing Opioid Abuse," which contains AGD's policy statements on the role of dentistry in opioid abuse. Dentists continue to decrease their use of opioid medications while relying on combinations of acetaminophen and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to mitigate their patients’ pain from dental procedures.
