When Hans P. Guter, DDS, FAGD, ran for AGD vice president, the organization was recovering from COVID-19 pandemic shutdowns, searching for an executive director and considering new dues models. Guter was prepared to lead and help guide AGD.

In 1973, AGD created a newsletter to inform members about the socioeconomic and political advances in dentistry, a newsletter that would eventually become AGD Impact. Fifty years later, much has changed about the publication, but its core mission to focus on the needs of AGD members and general dentists remains. The link between dental erosion (DE) and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is well documented, but evidence focuses on patients with established GERD.
