The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) installed Merlin P. Ohmer, DDS, MAGD, as president during its Annual Meeting, Nov.10-12, in Chicago. Ohmer, who recently served as the organization’s president-elect, steps into this role after serving the organization and the dentistry profession in a variety of leadership roles.

Winland was a general dentist from Athens, Ohio, and served as AGD editor for 24 years before retiring from that role in 2020. He died in August 2022. Winland’s wife Debra accepted the award.

Michael Lacey, DMD, MAGD, received the prestigious AGD Humanitarian Award during the AGD annual meeting in Chicago on Nov. 10, 2023.

Alabama general dentist Gordon R. Isbell, III, DMD, MAGD, is the Academy of General Dentistry’s (AGD) 2023 recipient for the Mark S. Ritz Advocate for Dentistry Award. The award was presented to Isbell during AGD’s Annual Meeting on Nov. 10 in Chicago, IL. Isbell is only the sixth AGD member to receive this prestigious award since its inception

Pennsylvania Dentist Dave A. Sullivan, DMD, MAGD, was recently presented the Humanitarian Award by the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) during its annual meeting on Nov. 10, 2023, in Chicago.

AGD recently re-elected Timothy F. Kosinski, DDS, MAGD, as the AGD editor during its annual meeting on Nov. 12 in Chicago. This is his second term as editor, and previously served as associate editor.

Robert M. Peskin, DDS, FAGD, elected AGD speaker of the house during its annual meeting on Nov. 12 in Chicago. Peskin will continue his role with years of experience presiding over official governing bodies.

Register for the Dec. 7 live online hands-on course "Freehand Diastema Closure" to earn 2.5 participation CE credits. Robert C. Margeas, DDS, FAGD, will guide participants through techniques for closing midline diastemas with composite. Registration closes Nov. 27, and attendance is limited to the first 50 registrants.

Working at the local level, AGD constituencies do tremendous work to advance AGD’s mission and vision. Their outstanding efforts were recognized during AGD’s annual meeting.

AGD is working to address the most pressing issues faced by our members as we advocate to government entities for general dentists.

Other officers elected during the meeting include Marc J. Worob, DDS, FAGD, as vice president; Kimberly Wright, DMD, MAGD, as secretary; Robert M. Peskin, DDS, FAGD, as speaker of the House of Delegates; and Timothy F. Kosinski, DDS, MAGD, as editor. Other members of the 2023–24 Executive Committee include: Chethan Chetty, DDS, MAGD, president-elect, and Joseph A. Picone, DMD, MAGD, treasurer.

AGD installed Marc J. Worob, DDS, FAGD, a general dentist from Austin, Texas, as vice president. He has been active in AGD on many levels and is an strong advocate for continuous dental education to enhance the skills of general dentists and improve the oral health of the public.
