FEMA is Seeking Vaccinator Volunteers in Certain States

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recently contacted the AGD. FEMA wants to administer 100 million COVID-19 vaccinations in 100 days, and they are exploring all avenues to accomplish this goal.

Currently, FEMA is asking any volunteer to commit to serving 14 consecutive days for deployment. There is currently nationwide licensure reciprocity in place to mobilize credentialed and licensed professionals to work in other states following minimal registration requirements. The Public Readiness and Emergency Preparedness (PREP) Act has been enacted and provides liability immunity for dental professionals administering the COVID-19 vaccine. FEMA will cover most of the costs to send volunteers to sites where they seek help. However, dentists will not be paid to administer the vaccine.

The states and territories most need are: American Samoa, Arizona, California, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and the Virgin Islands. Of that list, the states that allow dentists to vaccinate are California, Delaware, Illinois, Maryland, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma and Oregon.
