AGD Joins Massive Coalition Calling for PPP Extension
AGD joined hundreds of allied organizations in an effort led by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to have the SBA’s Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) extended beyond its current end-of-month expiration date. The coalition sent a letter on March 3 to key Senators calling for an extension of the PPP through December 31, 2021, as many small businesses are still struggling due to the pandemic and may need access to the loan program.
The House is anticipated to vote on legislation (H.R.1799) that extends the PPP through May 31, which may provide some short-term relief on this issue. The bill is to be voted on under suspension of the rules, which bars amendments, limits debate and requires a two-thirds majority for passage.
Impact on General Dentistry: AGD hopes that Congress will extend the PPP as recent program changes have complicated loan calculations for certain businesses. Some businesses are still waiting for the second round of funding due to a delay in the loan forgiveness process.
