AGD Expresses Support for H.R. 5734, the Resident Education Deferred Interest Act
In a letter to Representative Brian Babin, DDS, the AGD joined with other dental organizations to commend the Congressman for introducing the Resident Education Deferred Interest Act. If passed, the bill would suspend interest accrual on loans in forbearance or deferment and taken out by graduate students who qualify for the internship/residency category of delayed payment options.
Many new dentists enter a residency program at low pay and are often unable to begin immediately repaying student debt. Passage of the “Resident Education Deferred Interest Act” is an important part of student loan repayment reform and would save dentists in residency thousands of dollars in interest.
