Basic Science Fracture strength of ceramic overlays with immediate dentin sealing and same-day delivery
Melissa N. SeibertFull Article (PDF)
Joseph L. Gedge
Kraig S. Vandewalle
This study compared the fracture strengths of ceramic overlays fabricated with a delayed dentin sealing (DDS) or immediate dentin sealing (IDS) technique under 1-hour same-day or 2-week multiple-day delivery conditions. Two-way analysis of variance tests revealed no statistically significant differences in fracture strength between the groups based on dentin sealing or delivery time. IDS did not provide a significant increase in the fracture strength of overlay restorations compared with DDS.

The viral disease mpox (previously known as monkeypox) is emerging in countries that have never previously documented the illness. The virus is transmitted via human-to-human contact, and sexual contact is implicated in the spread of the disease. Oral ulcers and perioral papules may be the first evidence of the disease.

This study compared the color stability of temporary restorations fabricated by 3D printing or manual methods (automix bis-acryl or powder-and-liquid polymethyl methacrylate) following immersion in coffee, soft drink, or distilled water for 1 week. The greatest color change was exhibited by specimens in the automix group, and the coffee solution resulted in the greatest color change.

This study tested the reliability of a modified magnification method for using a single panoramic radiograph to determine whether an impacted maxillary canine is palatally or buccally positioned. The canine-incisor index and vertical zone relative to the contralateral central incisor were significant predictors of buccal vs palatal positioning.

This study compared the influence of different enamel etchants on the shear bond strength of orthodontic brackets to enamel and the Adhesive Remnant Index after bracket debonding. Specimens etched with phosphoric or glycolic acid had significantly higher shear bond strengths than those etched with ferulic acid, but the phosphoric acid group had significantly more remaining adhesive than the glycolic acid group.

Implants Prosthetically driven robot-assisted implant surgery: turning a major failure into a simple case
Sean PierceFull Article (PDF)
This case report documents the use of robotics technology to correct failure of a fixed partial denture and its supporting dentition. After extraction of the failed teeth and implant, new implants were placed with haptic guidance technology, leading to stable implants and a new restoration. The treatment plan was completed in 4.5 months with a single surgical procedure.

The article reports a novel case of the apparent failure of an implant to undergo osteointegration in the presence of submerged pencil graphite. Practitioners are advised to carefully evaluate proposed implant sites for occult foreign substances. Embedded pencil graphite may promote a foreign body reaction and should be considered in the list of possible factors contributing to dental implant complications.

This case report describes the digital work sequence for a rotational path RPD. A virtual survey determined the dual-axis path of insertion and removal, while the framework was fabricated conventionally. The digital planning provided was effective for esthetic and biomechanical analysis, resulting in minimal preparation of the abutment teeth.

Kraig S.
