Epidemiologic studies have demonstrated an association between obesity and worsening periodontal symptoms, such as gingival inflammation and diagnosis of periodontitis. A retrospective analysis in General Dentistry looks at the associations of periodontal disease parameters with body mass index in patients undergoing periodontal maintenance therapy.

As December comes to a close, so does the AGD Foundation's Annual Appeal. Help it reach its goal of raising $250,000. These funds will be used to provide free oral/oropharyngeal screenings, develop resources for dentists and patients, and distribute oral cancer-focused grants.

In 1973, AGD created a newsletter to inform members about the socioeconomic and political advances in dentistry, a newsletter that would eventually become AGD Impact. With President Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan temporarily blocked by a federal appeals court and set to go before the U.S. Supreme Court, the Department of Education announced an extension of the current pause on student loan repayment, interest, and collections until June 30, 2023 or until the litigation is resolved.
