Help AGD staff prepare for 2020 by completing and submitting your 2020 Constituent and Component Dues Update Form, which is posted on the constituent section of the AGD website. Doing so will allow you to discuss changes to your dues rates with your board and to send updates in a timely manner.

Your commitment and dedication are critical in the fight against oral cancer. If you are a dentist or hygienist licensed in Connecticut, please register to volunteer at the AGD Foundation-sponsored oral cancer screening at AGD2019 at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut on Friday, July 19.

Although AGD2019 officially starts Thursday, July 18, please remind constituents to consider arriving a day early to attend some of the educational sessions offered on Wednesday, July 17. These courses may serve as prerequisites for others held Thursday through Saturday

AGD recently announced that about 40 of their general dentists and dental student members from across the country traveled to the nation’s capital to meet with national legislators to discuss policies and issues related to dentistry.

As we move into 2019, we approach what may be the most stressful time for dental firm owners — tax time. For many of the dentists we meet, taxes are their highest annual expenditure.

Bettina D. Laidley, DMD, FAGD, represents Region 1, which includes Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. She is currently serving as the chair of the regional directors.

At the Texas AGD, recruitment strategies are implemented throughout the year to deliver innovative and relevant programs and services for general dentists in Texas. In the first quarter of 2019, two strategies were made a reality.

The Illinois AGD hosted the 26th Annual Ted Weclew continuing education course on Feb. 20, 2019. Doug Lambert, DDS, presented, “Make Me Smile,” an excellent review of conservative composite restorations.

Thank you to the leaders who participated in the January 2019 quarterly conference call. The remaining 2019 constituent conference calls are scheduled for Tuesday, April 16 and Tuesday, Oct. 22.

AGD2019 is only four months away. Now is the time to build momentum and encourage members to register for AGD2019. On the constituent membership chair page, you will find promotional materials under “Scientific Session Materials.” Feel free to share these ads on your website or social media pages.

The annual auction held during AGD2019 helps support many of our constituents’ community outreach programs — programs that provide quality oral healthcare, including oral cancer screenings and risk-factor prevention education, for underserved populations.

AGD2019 attendees will discover educational opportunities never before available at an AGD meeting. Hands-on learning will be taken to a new level as a live operatory recreating an actual dental office will be constructed in the exhibit hall.

The Regional Directors Leadership Development Symposium Committee and AGD are pleased to announce the constituencies that have chosen volunteer leaders to attend the 2019 AGD Leadership Development Symposium, April 12–13 in Chicago.

In its efforts to make sure that oral health remains a priority throughout the world, the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) promotes opportunities for general dentist to connect, share insights and learn best practices. The organization’s goal is to establish a network of support for general dentists throughout the world so that they can continue to affect change and advocate for policies that support the highest quality of care for their patients.

Today is National Dentist’s Day. As president of the Academy of General Dentistry, I am tremendously proud to be part of an organization that brings together general dentists dedicated to continuing education and staying up to date on the latest procedures and quality treatments.
