AGD Stands With Asian Community

This year we have witnessed tremendous loss — personally, professionally and in the world around us. Our lives have not only been transformed by the pandemic, but also by violence directed toward loved ones and people in our communities.

As president of the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), I want to address the pattern of intentional violence against Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities that has increased starkly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. This racist behavior cannot be tolerated, and we must condemn these acts. We must create welcoming communities, embrace differences, and speak up when we see racialized violence or mistreatment. As medical professionals, we have a responsibility to address racialized misinformation about this pandemic and ensure the health and safety of all within our communities.

AGD is committed to addressing racism in our communities and profession, and I encourage AGD members to promote safety and healing for everyone, especially for those in AAPI communities and for all people of color. We have a responsibility to stand up against all forms of racism, harassment and hate.

Thank you for your support.
