U.S. House Follows Senate in Advancing Fiscal Year 2027 Continuing Resolution
On September 1, 2026, the House of Representatives voted on a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government through December 11, 2026. The measure passed on a vote of 370-48, with 19 Republicans and 29 Democrats voting in opposition. The Senate advanced this measure by a vote of 90-6 on August 8, 2026. In addition to preventing a government shutdown, the CR delays OMB from finalizing its May 29, 2026 proposed rule entitled, Regulation for Federal Financial Assistance, which notably would require senior political appointments to review awards prior to issuance to ensure that all discretionary awards adhere to administration priorities and are compliant and permissible under applicable law. The CR prohibits any similar measure from being issued or finalized prior to December 11.
On September 2, 2026, President Trump signed the CR into law.
The full text of the CR may be found here.
Impact on General Dentistry: The CR generally maintains FY 2026 funding levels, meaning programs that support dental training, oral health workforce development, and federally funded oral health initiatives would generally continue operating without interruption.
