AGD, alongside Minnesota AGD, submitted formal comments to the Minnesota Board of Dentistry expressing concerns about proposed amendments to Minnesota Statute Section 150A.105(4)(c) that would expand the scope of practice for licensed dental therapists. The updated statute would allow dental therapists to place and remove sutures, rather than remove sutures only. In the letter, AGD noted that improper suturing or relining can lead to compromised healing, excessive bleeding, tissue damage and the need for corrective treatment
The organizations urged the board to carefully consider patient safety implications and reject the proposed scope expansion.
