Roberto A. Moreno, DDS, MAGD, has had several major accomplishments in his first 10 years of practice, including co-owning two practices and serving as president of the Iowa AGD. But perhaps most impressive is how he achieved AGD Mastership less than 10 years out of dental school.

“It took me eight years to meet all of the requirements for Fellowship and Mastership, but completing them gave me a very well-rounded knowledge of dentistry,” Moreno said. “It has really helped raise my confidence when treating patients. I believe most dentists limit the courses they take to subjects that interest them; the value of taking all the courses needed for Mastership is that you will take courses that you may not take otherwise.”

Although he values the personal investment of continuing education, Moreno said serving his local community has helped him make the biggest difference through dentistry.

“After graduation, I was recognized for my community work with uninsured patients as a Fulfilling Iowa’s Need for Dentists project awardee,” Moreno said. “I also participate in Iowa Mission of Mercy, which is a two-day community dental clinic that offers free dental care.”

In addition to his dental-specific volunteer work, Moreno is a past president and current secretary for his local Lions Club. He also mentors local children through the West Liberty Youth Dream Catchers, a foundation established by his parents that creates opportunities for children to go to college through mentoring and scholarships.

“Dr. Moreno encompasses all that a leader is,” said Chad J. Wagener, DDS, MAGD, regional director of Region 10. “He pursues higher education to give his patients better care, volunteers in his community, and is active in making the Iowa AGD a better and stronger organization.”
