Donald Worm, DDS, MAGD, ABGD, Elected AGD Treasurer
Chicago, IL (October 25, 2020) – The Academy of General Dentistry recently elected Donald Worm, DDS, MAGD, ABGD, as treasurer during its Annual Meeting on October 25, held virtually due to COVID-19. Worm has been an AGD member since 1988 and has served in numerous leadership positions.
Worm has been a member of the AGD Budget and Finance Committee for nine years, three of which he served as chair. He was the chair of the Member Value Prioritization Working Group, a member of the 2015 AGD Strategic Planning Task Force, and a member or consultant in numerous other committees and working groups. He also served a three-year term as Region 17 regional director and later Region 17 trustee. As a longtime member of the Navy AGD constituency, Worm was elected to two-year terms as its secretary, president-elect and president. He has also taught several topics for the Fellowship Review Course. He is currently the President-elect of the Maryland AGD. He has been a delegate or alternate delegate for 13 years at the AGD House of Delegates (HOD). Outside AGD, he is active with the board of directors of the Maryland State Dental Association (MSDA) and serves on the MSDA Legislative Affairs Committee. This year he was a delegate for Anne Arundel County Dental Association at the MSDA House of Delegates.
“I bring a wealth of leadership experience, which stems from 30 years as a Navy dental officer and as an AGD leader,” said Worm. “My time managing budgets within the military and my experience on the Budget and Finance Committee have given me the tools and knowledge with which I can go even further to ensure that AGD’s membership is receiving the highest quality of service for their membership dollar.”
Worm graduated from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry in 1988 and entered the U.S. Navy as a dental officer. During his career he served as director of a Navy advanced education in general dentistry program, program director and chair of the Comprehensive Dentistry Residency Department at the Naval Postgraduate Dental School and later as director of Navy Postgraduate Dental Education Programs. He was the Director of Dental Services of the Naval Health Clinic Annapolis two for four years. In July 2011, he deployed for a year to Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom as the Team Lead, Validation and Health Care Development Team, for the NATO Afghanistan training command. While there, he developed healthcare standards for the Afghan army and police hospital systems. He also served as the dentist to the president of the United States and officer in charge of the presidential dental support team for George W. Bush. He retired in 2018 after 30 years of service and is now in private practice in Annapolis, Maryland.
Worm completed residency training in comprehensive dentistry at the Naval Postgraduate Dental School in 1995 and received his Masters of Science in Oral Biology from George Washington University. He is board certified with the American Board of General Dentistry and a fellow of the International College of Dentists. This year, he received his AGD Lifelong Learning and Service Recognition. He is an active member in the Maryland AGD and maintains membership in the American Dental Association (ADA), International College of Dentists, the MSDA and several local dental study clubs in Maryland.
