The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) sent a request today to its members encouraging them to donate surplus personal protection equipment (PPE) and supplies to local healthcare professionals, facilities and other medical outlets who are on the frontlines working to combat COVID-19. The association is urging its members to reach out to their local public health offices or first responders to donate masks, gloves, gowns, eye protection or other products that are desperately needed to ensure the safety of healthcare professionals caring for patients.

“AGD is encouraging our members to donate their surplus supplies during this critical time because the shortages our fellow healthcare providers are experiencing is staggering,” said AGD President Connie L. White, DDS, FAGD. “We want to do whatever we can to limit the spread of COVID-19 and prevent new cases, and we see this as a way to help during this critical time. The right equipment is key to limiting the infection’s transmission.”

White added, “General dentists remain available to help with emergency dental procedures. They are communicating with their patients and asking them to avoid hospital emergency rooms if they have a dental need during this time. We want to reduce the burden those dental visits would have on sites that are focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19 patients.”
