Sarah Percy Tovar, DDS, FAGD, FICD, makes a difference in dentistry by supporting the newest and emerging members of the profession.

“Since entering the workforce, I’ve been able to give back by mentoring dental students, supplying encouragement and a glimpse of the light at the end of the dental school tunnel,” Tovar said. “As a leader at the local and state levels, I have had the opportunity to provide impactful CE to practicing dentists — especially new dentists — through study clubs and statewide conferences.”

New dentists would be hard-pressed to find a better role model. Tovar earned her AGD Fellowship in 2016, was named to the SuperDentists list in 2018, and, most recently, received the 2019 New Dentist of the Year award from the Texas AGD.

While participating in free dental clinics in the San Antonio area, volunteering on the medical team for the PGA Tour’s Valero Texas Open and serving as a team dentist for
San Antonio’s American Hockey League team, the Rampage, Tovar has kept her eye on her next big undertaking — opening and operating her own successful practice.

“Sarah is well respected by her peers and has a contagious enthusiasm and spirit,” said Marc J. Worob, DDS, FAGD, regional director of Region 18. “Winning the Texas AGD 2019 New Dentist of the Year Award is a testament to her leadership, her achievements as a Fellow and her activity across all areas of dentistry and her community. She has a unique vision, as she described so well in a quote she gave as part of her New Dentist profile: ‘Advances in dentistry come up every day, but what doesn’t change are the amazing individuals who become dentists.’ In my opinion, she is well deserving of this recognition as one of those amazing individuals.”
