Elizabeth A. Clemente, DDS, MAGD, AGD's new treasurer, to utilize budgetary experience in new role
Chicago, IL (11/05/2018) — The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) recently installed Elizabeth A. Clemente, DDS, MAGD, as its new treasurer during its Annual Meeting in Chicago, November 2- 4. She brings a wealth of experience in organized dentistry and financial management, and strong familiarity with the programs and services of the AGD. Dr. Clemente had most recently served on the organization’s Budget and Finance Council.
“AGD is about more than dental education and my participation in this organization enabled me to expand my expertise in numerous areas of organized dentistry,” said Elizabeth A. Clemente, DDS, MAGD, AGD recently treasurer. “With my extensive budget management background, my goal is to help AGD maintain and strengthen its fiscal stability so that the next generation of general dentists can enjoy the benefits that AGD has afforded me throughout the years.”
Dr. Clemente was first introduced to the AGD by Dr. Peter Sturm, an assistant AGD editor and staff member, in her residency program. She served on the AGD Membership Committee and as president of the AGD Foundation before she was elected as the Regional Director and, later, trustee from Region 4. Presently, she serves as division coordinator for Membership and Member Benefits and is in her fourth year on the Budget and Finance Committee.
Dr. Clemente is a graduate of St. Lawrence University and worked as a quality control analyst at Miller Brewing Company. She attended Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine, where she received a Doctorate in Dental Surgery. After finishing a general practice residency program in Paramus, New Jersey, she opened a practice with her co-resident. After 10 years, Dr. Clemente sold her share of the practice and moved into another New Jersey practice.
Dr. Clemente honed her budget and finance skills when she served as the director of the University of Alabama, School of Dentistry advanced education in general dentistry and general practice residency (GPR) programs. She was charged with merging the programs and renovating the clinic. She was assigned the positions of interim director of undergraduate clinics and director of faculty practice because of her proven budget and management experience. During this time, she appeared before the State of Alabama’s task force to review dental services and Medicaid coverage. She introduced mouth guards to the Special Olympics in Alabama, an experience which provided the data and impetus for a later published paper. Dr. Clemente was honored by Birmingham Public Schools for this outreach program.
Dr. Clemente currently serves as the chair of the Department of Dentistry, Director of the General Practice Residency program and clinic director at Morristown Medical Center. She is a member of New Jersey’s Access to Care Committee and remains active in the American Dental Association (ADA). She serves as a District 4 delegate and has been a member of the election team for two ADA presidents from the Fourth District. Dr. Clemente has served on numerous committees for the New Jersey Dental Association. She is an alternate trustee and a member of the Budget and Finance Committee.
