This narrative review provides an update on the uses of MRI for maxillofacial imaging and the compatibility of various dental materials with MRI. Commonly used dental materials such as titanium, amalgam, and gold do not distort MRI results, but stainless steel and cobalt-chromium may cause artifacts on the obtained images.

Effects of immersion in coffee solution and brushing on the surface roughness and color change of 3D-printed resins

The surface roughness and color change of 3 provisional materials (2 resins for 3D printing and 1 resin for CAD/CAM) were compared following immersion in distilled water or coffee followed by brushing cycles to simulate aging. Coffee caused more visible color change in both 3D-printed resins than in the CAD/CAM resin. Surface roughness remained stable only in the long-term 3D-printed resin.

Effect of mouthguard use and jaw clenching on athletic strength

The findings of a scoping review suggest that the combination of custom-made mouthguard use and jaw clenching provides greater benefits in enhancing strength performance than either jaw clenching alone or the combination of over-the-counter mouthguard use and jaw clenching.

An in vitro study evaluated the accuracy of 2 root canal impression techniques for CAD/CAM post and core restorations by comparing the volumes of digital models made from PVS or chemically activated acrylic resin impressions with the true post space volume of a bovine tooth. While both materials showed some distortion, the PVS technique generated more accurate digital models.

This report describes 2 less common clinical presentations of adenomatoid odontogenic tumor along with histopathologic findings after surgical biopsy. One lesion, in a 19-year-old man, contained an impacted maxillary premolar; the other tumor, found in an 8-year-old girl, contained 2 unerupted maxillary premolars.

Two fearful children underwent dental treatment in different sessions with or without animal-assisted therapy for emotional support. During treatment sessions that included animal-assisted therapy, there was a reduction in both patients’ stress and anxiety levels, and an increase in cooperative behavior was observed.

This study evaluated the microshear bond strengths and failure modes of 1 self-adhesive and 2 self-etching resin cements when bonded to superficial or deep dentin of human third molars. Panavia V5 demonstrated superior bond strength to both superficial and deep dentin, maintaining greater bond durability over time compared with RelyX U200 and Panavia F 2.0.

Developmental defects of enamel, associated with changes during enamel formation, may increase dentinal sensitivity, impair esthetics, and lower self-esteem. This case report describes a noninvasive esthetic approach to treating enamel hypoplasia associated with dental caries in a permanent tooth after trauma to the primary predecessor.

An in vivo study assessed the relationships between xerostomia and salivary flow as well as their effect on patients’ adaptation to complete dentures. Salivary flow directly impacted adaptation, with patients with lower salivary flow returning for more adjustments. The presence of xerostomia did not affect adaptation.
