Academy of General Dentistry Awards Prestigious Award to California Dentist

The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) is pleased to announce that California dentist Charles J. Goodacre, DDS, MAGD, is this year’s recipient for the Dr. Thaddeus V. Weclew Award. Goodacre is being presented the award during AGD scientific session held this year in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Goodacre has over 200 scientific publications, with two listed among the 100 most-cited articles in implant dentistry and two others listed in the 100 most-cited articles in prosthodontics. He has developed or helped develop 17 online CE courses and five 3D digital-learning resources, three of which include virtual/augmented reality capabilities. He helped develop the FOR.org website, which has over 50,000 dentists and students currently using its freely available content. He has presented over 600 invited lectures throughout the world. Goodacre is a distinguished professor at Loma Linda University and teaches in the advanced education program in implant dentistry.

The Dr. Thaddeus V. Weclew Award is named after AGD’s founding father and given to an AGD member who has shown exemplary professionalism and a commitment to enhancing the field of dentistry through mentorship, leadership, and education. This award is presented annually to a dedicated educator who embodies the spirit of comprehensive dental care.

“There are some great dentists in the field because of the dedication and commitment to education and mentorship made by AGD members such as Dr. Goodacre”, said Merlin Ohmer, DDS, MAGD, AGD President. “With an esteemed background in dental education, AGD is honored to acknowledge Dr. Goodacre as this year’s recipient of the Thaddeus V. Weclew Award.”

Goodacre is an accomplished dentist with volumes of published works and countless hours in dental education both as a student and teacher. He received his dental degree from Loma Linda University and masters from Indiana University after completing a combined program in prosthodontics and dental materials. He served as chair of the department of prosthodontics at Indiana University and as dean of the Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. He is a diplomate and past president of the American Board of Prosthodontics and a past president of the American College of Prosthodontists.

 

Goodacre continues to maintain a practice devoted to prosthodontics and implant dentistry.
