AGD Welcomes Newly Appointed U.S. Chief Dental Officer Dr. Tim Ricks
Chicago, IL (09/25/2018) — A few weeks after the announcement about the commission of a new Surgeon General Report on Oral Health, the United States Public Health Services (USPHS) Office announces the appointment of RADM Tim Ricks, DMD, MPH, as the newly appointed Chief Dental Officer. Dr. Ricks is a longtime active member of the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD).
“AGD has been advocating that the appointment of a top oral health executive with formal training in dentistry is essential to ensure the health of more than 3 million people served through Health Resources and Service Administration,” said Manuel A. Cordero, DDS, CPH, MAGD. “AGD is grateful to see the selection of Dr. Ricks, who can draw on his extensive experience in public policy and dentistry to support our country’s oral health challenges.”
As the chief dental officer, Dr. Ricks will serve as an advisor to the surgeon general on dental health policies and work to develop the department. With a career that expands about 20 years he brings a wealth of leadership, knowledge and experience to the chief dental officer role. He began his career in public health service in 1999 in the Indian Health Service (IHS) as Chief of the Basic Dental Satellite Unit at Pyramid Lake, Nevada. From there, Dr. Ricks has served in many chief and deputy chief roles advancing programs, policies and initiatives that have impacted the educational and professional development of dentistry.
