2017 Mar/Apr; 65(2):28-32.The maxillary sinuses of 500 subjects were analyzed by cone beam computed tomography to determine the prevalence of pathologic alterations. The most prevalent finding was mucosal thickening, followed by mucous retention pseudocyst, partial opacification, and total opacification. These anomalies may necessitate a modification in a treatment plan.

2017 Mar/Apr; 65(2):42-46.Different microwave radiation regimens (3, 5, or 7 minutes’ exposure) were applied for disinfection of type IV dental stone surfaces, and the influence of these regimens on surface roughness and dimensional change was assessed. Exposure times of 5 and 7 minutes sterilized specimens exposed to Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, or Candida albicans. A 3-minute regimen successfully eradicated E coli and C albicans, but S aureus colonies were observed in 50% of Petri dishes. None of the regimens caused a significant difference in dimensions or surface roughness.

2017 Mar/Apr; 65(2):47-50.The efficacy of casein phosphopeptide–amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP) was compared to that of the combined enzymes lysozyme, lactoferrin, and lactoperoxidase (LLL) in reducing Streptococcus mutans counts. There was no significant reduction in the numbers of S mutans after application of CPP-ACP, but a significant reduction of S mutans was observed after 3 applications of LLL.
