This study used data from a clinic at a US dental school to examine disparities in oral healthcare between patients with serious mental illness (SMI) and a group without SMI. Individuals with SMI had higher incidence rate ratios of removable prosthodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, and adjunctive general services, suggesting that their dental conditions dictated more invasive treatments.

A randomized clinical trial examined the impact of a single submucosal dexamethasone injection on pain and swelling following implant placement. Submucosal administration of dexamethasone following implant surgery led to significant decreases in postoperative pain and swelling but did not produce a significant increase in patients’ overall level of satisfaction after surgery.

In a qualitative study on the experiences of dental providers and interpreters during bilingual patient encounters, both groups identified miscommunication as an area of challenge. Providers also cited not knowing if the interpretation was correct and interpreters’ misunderstanding of their role, while interpreters mentioned navigating cultural differences and providers’ failure to respect the patient.

This report presents 2 unusual cases of osteoporotic bone marrow defect (OBMD) with lesions that exhibited well-corticated perimeters and resembled a cystic process. Histopathologically, OBMDs contain various stages of development of hematopoietic cells, fatty marrow, and spicules of normal trabeculated bone. OBMD should be included in the differential diagnosis of cyst-like lesions of the jaws.

This case report describes treatment of posterior tooth wear, anterior canine guidance, and an noncarious cervical lesion using a digital workflow and a combination of direct, indirect, and direct-indirect techniques. Tabletop restorations were used to treat posterior tooth wear, and reanatomization was performed for the anterior teeth to restore canine guidance.

This pilot study assessed the retention and durability of 9 zirconia resin-bonded fixed partial dentures (RBFPDs) with countersunk holes in the zirconia wings. The overall survival rate was 55.6%, and debonding occurred in 4 cases, including wing fracture in 1 case. The prostheses did not appear to show any advantage compared with rates previously reported for zirconia RBFPDs without holes in the wings.

This in vitro study aimed to analyze the influence of ambient lighting on the detection of simulated internal root resorption in images viewed on a desktop computer, laptop, or smartphone. Neither the ambient lighting nor the type of device influenced the diagnosis of internal root resorption, allowing for flexibility in diagnostic conditions and the use of portable devices in clinical settings.

A 2-dimensional radiograph following trauma to the anterior maxilla revealed a well-defined radiolucency suggestive of internal root resorption on the lateral incisor of a 25-year-old man. Cone beam computed tomographic imaging revealed that the radiolucency was the canalis sinuosus, highlighting the importance of 3-dimensional assessment of confounding findings in the anterior maxilla.
