    A survey of Alabama AGD members assessed attitudes toward and barriers to providing dental care for pregnant patients. Lack of education and/or training was the most frequently identified barrier, and dentists who did not receive residency training reported more confidence in their ability to provide care.

  • Pediatric Dentistry Symmetry of carious lesions in primary and permanent teeth in children as a predictor of future caries patterns

    This study evaluated the bilateral symmetry of carious lesions in the primary and permanent teeth of children. The results suggest that the presence of a carious lesion on a tooth surface can predict vulnerability to caries on the contralateral tooth, allowing the dentist to pursue targeted preventive action.

    Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Autotransplantation: a lost art worthy of revival in the era of implants

    Basic Science Effect of high-concentration bleaching agents on dentin bonding: an in vitro study

    This study evaluated the effects of high-concentration solutions of carbamide peroxide and hydrogen peroxide on the dentin-resin interface and shear bond strength of restorative materials. The shear bond strength increased significantly with a longer delay between bleaching and bonding (immediate vs 1-week delay vs 2-week delay), and there were no differences between bleaching solutions.

  • Implants Subperiosteal implant overdenture fabrication using existing custom Dolder bar attachments

    This case report describes treatment of a patient with subperiosteal implants who requested repair of her existing spare set of dentures. The dentures that the patient currently wore were used as a guide for creating the new prostheses, and the Dolder bar attachments in the spare set of dentures were reused, providing satisfactory esthetic and functional results.

  • Oral Medicine, Oral Diagnosis, Oral Pathology Solitary fibrous tumor arising from the buccal mucosa: diagnostic challenge of a rare entity

    This case report presents a rare occurrence of a solitary fibrous tumor presenting in the buccal mucosa. The lesion was excised and underwent immunohistochemical and histopathologic analyses. The clinical and histopathologic features of a solitary fibrous tumor and its differential diagnoses are described.

  • Pediatric Dentistry Selection of mucocele management technique: considerations in pediatric patients

    This case report describes the surgical excision of an oral mucocele in a 9-year-old boy. A review of the literature from 2010 to 2018 revealed 20 studies pertaining to mucocele excision. Although surgical excision is suitable for cooperative pediatric patients, alternative approaches may offer reduced chair time, minimal intraoperative bleeding, and enhanced postoperative recovery.

    Cleidocranial dysplasia is a rare congenital malformation with oral manifestations that include late eruption of permanent teeth and the presence of supernumerary teeth. The clinical, radiographic, and genetic aspects of 2 families affected by the disorder are examined to contribute to the literature on the disease.

  • Periodontics Periodontal treatment of patients with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia

    To date, no protocol has been established for optimizing the outcomes of periodontal treatment in patients with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT), a rare condition characterized by increased risks of bleeding, cerebral abscesses, arteriovenous malformations, anemia, and thrombosis. This case report describes a safe clinical approach to periodontal treatment in a patient with HHT.

    A retrospective cohort study of 620 adults following irradiation for head and neck cancer evaluated the occurrence of osteoradionecrosis and identified factors to minimize its incidence: meticulous preradiotherapy dental examination, a comprehensive treatment plan, and diligent postradiotherapy follow-up examinations conducted by an experienced multidisciplinary team.
