In a study of the prevalence and anatomical characteristics of bifurcated inferior alveolar nerves, cone beam computed tomography found bifurcations in 13.4% of 194 patients. Fourteen bifid nerves were type 1, with a single foramen and narrower inferior canal, and 16 were type 2, with a short superior canal extending to the second or third molar.

This study evaluated the fracture resistance of teeth with standard or extended preparations after restoration with lithium disilicate or resin nanoceramic inlays. Although bonded restorations reinforced the tooth structure, the fracture load was significantly lower in teeth with extended preparations. The type of restorative material did not significantly affect the fracture load.

A study of more than 700 subjects examined the accuracy of different imaging modalities for detecting signs of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) degenerative joint disease. Panoramic radiography and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) had poor sensitivity but high specificity for detecting subcortical cysts, surface erosion, and generalized sclerosis that were visible on computed tomography (CT). MRIs demonstrated adequate diagnostic accuracy for osteophyte formation, but panoramic radiographs did not. Use of CT for diagnosis of TMJ degenerative joint disease is recommended to avoid false-negative findings.

When overdenture attachments were investigated in vitro, Locator attachments demonstrated a more stable and sustained retentive force than O-ring/ball attachments in dry testing. In wet testing, both attachments showed acceptable retentive forces over time. Locator or metal-to-metal attachment components would be preferable for patients with dry oral conditions, but there should be no significant difference between the performance of the attachment types in saliva-moistened oral cavities.

An 11-year-old patient whose permanent maxillary right central incisor was impacted due to the presence of 2 supernumerary teeth underwent extraction of the supernumerary teeth and orthodontic traction of the impacted central incisor. Treatment resulted in functional and esthetic oral rehabilitation.

Dye penetration testing to evaluate the marginal microleakage of composite resin inlays luted with 3 different cement systems revealed that inlays luted with Calibra and Charisma Flow showed greater microleakage, notably at the cervical margins. Inlays luted with RelyX Unicem showed the least dye penetration.

Overdentures were fabricated for a 12-year-old boy with dentinogenesis imperfecta type 2 in order to improve dental esthetics, reconstruct overall function, and maintain the vertical dimension of occlusion until he reaches full adult development. The prostheses successfully restored function and improved esthetics, increasing the patient’s self-esteem.

This study compared the effects of a nanohydroxyapatite (nanoHAp) and a sodium fluoride dentifrice on the surface characteristics of bovine enamel subjected to pH cycling. The nanoHAp-containing dentifrice promoted less superficial roughness after 14 days, but the performances of both dentifrices were similar in relation to color variation, lightness, and brightness. No effective esthetic remineralization was achieved in either group.

A permanent maxillary central incisor was reimplanted in an 11-year-old boy 6 days after avulsion of the tooth. At the 1-year follow-up, the tooth exhibited clinical function without mobility or pain. Although there were radiographic signs of ankylosis, treatment was deemed successful because the tooth and surrounding bone had been preserved, delaying the need for definitive treatment in the growing child.

After subepithelial connective tissue grafts associated with composite restorations were used to reconstruct the interdental papillae in 2 patients, 12-month recall examinations revealed stable gingival margins and complete, harmonious fill of the interdental papillary areas.

This preclinical study in dogs investigated the effectiveness of using autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to heal erosive lesions in the oral cavity. In the dogs receiving autologous PRP, no traces of inflammatory symptoms were found at 14 days, while the control group exhibited signs of nonspecific chronic inflammation in the oral mucosa at 14 days.
