AGD2021 Keynote Speaker: Scott Burrows
The Academy of General Dentistry is pleased to announce that the AGD2021 keynote address will be given by Scott Burrows, a motivational speaker who brings the concepts of Vision, Mindset and Grit to life. His passion and focus comes from multiple life-changing events that redirected his future and forced him to overcome unexpected obstacles.
At the age of 19, he was a college wide receiver at Florida State University and a top-ranked kick-boxing Black Belt champion. This all changed in the blink of an eye when, as a passenger in friend’s car, he was in a catastrophic automobile accident that left him paralyzed from the chest down and diagnosed a quadriplegic.
Despite having his promising athletic career cut short, Burrows did not let this event define his life. After half a year of physical therapy and battling life-threatening complications, Burrows returned to college and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Finance. With his competitive drive burning bright as ever, Burrows began competing with other world-class disabled athletes in full-contact wheelchair rugby, a Paralympic sport also known as Murderball.
After college, Burrows used his experience and drive while working as a Financial Advisor in the Insurance and Financial Industry for Northwestern Mutual. He specialized in life and disability insurance planning as well as retirement, estate and wealth planning. He excelled in this position and qualified for the prestigious Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT), the Premiere Association of Financial Professionals, which is a 100% commission-driven sales production award that fewer than 8% of his peers qualify for annually from more than 500 companies in 70 countries around the world.
At the height of his career, Burrows was involved in another severe automobile accident that forced him to re-evaluate, re-invent and re-ignite his life. It was at this time he walked away from a successful career in order to share his unique story with the world.
