Speaker Biography

Dr. Edward E. Herschaft received a BA (Bio/Chem) from the City University of New York (CUNY) - Queens College in 1965 and a dds from West Virginia University School of Dentistry in 1970.  He completed his residency in oral and maxillofacial pathology at the Medical University of South Carolina in 1975, and received a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of New Orleans in 1978.

Dr. Herschaft is a Professor of Emeritus at the Medical University of South Carolina College of Dental Medicine and is currently Professor and Interim Chairperson of the Department of Biomedical Science at the University of Nevada - Las Vegas (UNLV) School of Dental Medicine and Guest Professor at the Medical School of Nankai University in Tianjin, China.

As a forensic dental consultant to the Clark County Office of the Coroner/Medical Examiner (CCOCME) in Las Vegas, Nevada, the University of South Carolina School of Law- Children's Law Center, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC); he has provided over 40 years of forensic dental expertise to these and other legal agencies.  Additionally, Dr. Herschaft is a member of the Nevada State Disaster Identification Team and Director of Education and an Associate Dentist with Health Promotion Specialist of South Carolina.

He has served as vice-president of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, president of the American Society of Forensic Odontology, and is currently vice-president of the American Board of Forensic Odontology.  Dr. Herschaft is the recipient of the Reider F. Sognnaes and Lester Luntz Awards of Excellence in FOrensic Odontology from the American Academy of Forensic Odontology Section, and is the 1998 West Virginia University, School of Dentistry Alumni Association's Distinguished Alumnus of the Year Award honoree.

Dr. Herschaft is a Diplomate of the American Boards of Oral Medicine and Forensic Odontology and a Fellow of the American and International Colleges of Dentists, American Academy of Forensic Science and Pierre Fauchard Academy.  He has published and presented extensively on subjects regarding the relationship between oral and systemic health, oral and maxillofacial pathology, oral medicine, pharmacology, and forensic dentistry.
