Description
Tremendous advances have been made in the accuracy and ease of use of intraoral scanners (IOSs). The ability to scan and immediately evaluate a tooth preparation provides the opportunity to correct deficiencies and rescan the altered areas in seconds. Inclusion of artificial intelligence in operating systems and software has made clinical scanning for both conventional and implant prosthodontics easy, rapid and accurate. Acting synergistically with technology are the developments of esthetic high-strength ceramics and contemporary cementation options, which have further improved clinical predictability. Sorensen will outline the applications of IOS systems for simple to complex cases and will provide an overview of contemporary materials and cementation options.
Learning Objectives
- Understand the advantages, disadvantages and limitations of digital impressions relative to conventional impressions.
- Understand the advantages and limitations of the various parts of the digital workflow for both the clinical and laboratory technology aspects.
- Identify how digital tools can enhance patient communication, treatment planning and communication between providers and the dental technician.
- Understand selection criteria for ceramic material systems, digital technologies, implant abutments and cements.
