Description:In response to the COVID-19 Pandemic CDC interim guidance for infection and prevention control (IPC) has been updated several times over the past year. OSHA has provided guidance and reinforced relevant regulations as well. Emphasis on respiratory precautions, enhanced patient health screening, ventilation and modification of certain procedures have all been part of our “new normal”. This webinar will provide a refresher of the IPC precautions dental professionals should follow today and indications for future guidance to ensure patient and provider safety during every patient visit. Resources for implementation and evaluation of an IPC program will be described.
At the end of this session, participants should be able to:
*Describe relevant IPC CDC guidance and OSHA regulations for dental settings
*Differentiate standard precautions, droplet precautions, and airborne precautions
*Identify elements of an IPC program to ensure patient and personnel safety

Speaker Bio:
Ms. Eklund is the Director of Occupational Health and Safety and the Forsyth Research Subject and Patient Safety Advocate at The Forsyth Institute. She is an adjunct faculty member at Regis College, Dental Hygiene Program where she teaches senior-level courses in Oral Health Research and Evidence-Based Decision Making. Ms. Eklund serves as faculty for the New England AIDS Education and Training Center and HIVdent.org and was the 2017-2019 Chair of the Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP) Board of Directors. Over the past 36 years, Ms. Eklund has published papers and contributed to several texts on infection control and safety. She is an author of the CDC Guidelines for Infection Control in Dental Health-Care Settings- 2003.
