AGD’s House of Delegates Meeting Honors Leaders, Approves Plans

11-16-20_HOD_BDue to COVID-19, AGD held its annual House of Delegates meeting virtually Oct. 23–25. It was the organization’s opportunity to recognize current leaders, select future leaders and approve plans for the coming year. Resolution Results
Several key resolutions were addressed by the House of Delegates during this year’s annual meeting. They include:

  • A proposal regarding alternative membership models with different levels of dues and benefits, which was approved.
  • Resolutions supporting a patient-centered dental home led by general dentists and opposing the use of tobacco and vaping products, both of which were approved.
  • A proposal to sunset the Group Benefits Council, which did not pass.
  • A proposal to pay constituents/components first on installment payments, which was referred to a task force for further consideration.
  • The following governance issues:
    • Bylaws amendments must be submitted at least 60 days prior to the House of Delegates. Other resolutions not submitted at least two weeks prior to the first session may be added as new business at the first session of the House of Delegates meeting with a two-thirds vote but at the second session by unanimous consent.
    • If a regional director temporarily assumes the office of trustee, he or she can’t serve as both regional director and trustee.
    • Language was eliminated so that the Board does not need to approve reports from the Governance Review and Evaluation Committee for bylaw changes. Instead, a review and vote by the Board with submission of a vote to the House of Delegates for their approval is required.
  • The 2021 budget, which was approved.
  • Fifteen out-of-date policies, which were rescinded based on recommendations by the Policy Review Committee.
