Date(s)Warden H. Noble, DDS, MS, MSEd
Subject: 250 Operative (Restorative) Dentistry
Credits: 1.5
Thursday, Dec. 9: 7:30–9 p.m. CST
Audience: Dentists, Dental Hygienists, Dental Assistants
Fee: Free
Description
Wear of dental hard tissues and restorations is receiving increasing attention. Formerly, wear was mainly attributable to bruxism and parafunctional behaviors related to mandibular movements. Recent research has expanded causation to include erosive tooth wear, frictional forces from attrition and abrasion, and possibly abfraction. Wear is discussed from a global aspect, meaning that what patients use and how they care for their teeth is perhaps more important than the actual tooth-to-tooth contact.
This presentation will review the actual processes involved in management of tooth wear. Strategies for prevention and restorative care will be emphasized.
Learning Objectives
- Diagnose various aspects of tooth wear, including attrition, abrasion, acid erosion, bruxism and noncarious cervical lesions/abfractions.
- Explain ways in which dentists and dental hygienists can help patients control risk factors related to tooth surface loss.
- Discuss how practitioners can help with the management of tooth wear utilizing minimally invasive procedures, which can be performed by various members of the oral health team.
Warden H. Noble, DDS, MS, MSEd, graduated from the University of California-San Francisco (UCSF) and then completed a prosthodontic residency program at the University of Michigan.
