In an effort led by the American Dental Association (ADA), a group of dental organizations, including AGD, sent a letter on September 22 to the National Council of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL) to support a Transparency in Dental Benefits Contracting model act. NCOIL's Health Insurance & Long Term Care Issues Committee considered the model act at a September 26 meeting.

The Model Act, initially called the Patient Dental Care Bill of Rights, intends to establish greater transparency and consumer protections in dental plans.

Impact on General Dentistry: AGD strongly believes that patients and their providers deserve dental coverage that puts patients first, removes financial and coverage uncertainties, and prohibits practices that make understanding or using coverage harder for the average person. AGD hopes that the proposed Model Act principles are maintained when it is introduced and that it will be adopted in states across the country.
