This course explores modern approaches to caries excavation that prioritize the preservation of tooth structure and pulp vitality. With a focus on selective and stepwise caries removal techniques, attendees will learn how to minimize the risk of pulp exposure while maximizing restorative success. The session will highlight clinical criteria, material selection, and treatment planning strategies supported by the latest literature.

- Define selective, stepwise, and complete caries removal and identify appropriate use cases for each.
- Understand the scientific basis for minimally invasive excavation and how it supports pulp vitality.
- Apply modern materials and techniques for managing deep caries without unnecessary pulp exposure.
Melissa Seibert, DMD, MS, FAGD, ABGD, is the creator and host of the top dental podcast, “Dental Digest.” The podcast is in the top 1% of all podcasts globally and has won Most Educational Podcast in Dentistry two years in a row. She was recently awarded “Top 40 Under 40 Dentists in America” by Incisal Edge magazine. She is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force's comprehensive dentistry residency and completed a three-year advanced education in general dentistry residency. She holds a faculty appointment at the Creighton University School of Dentistry and lectures to national and international audiences. She has multiple peer-reviewed publications.
