Montana House Bill 584, introduced in February 2025 by State Rep. Ed Buttrey (R), aimed to revise laws related to dental anesthesia inspections, enhancing the safety and regulatory framework surrounding dental anesthesia practices in the state.
Unexpectedly, an amendment was proposed that would have permitted non-dentists and private equity firms to own dental practices in Montana. This raised significant concerns about the potential impact on patient-centered care and the threat to stable dental practices.
In response, on March 30, AGD's national and state leadership issued an urgent call to action. Montana AGD members were urged to contact committee members to oppose the amendment. Thanks to their swift and united efforts, the amendment was dropped from the bill the following day.
This outcome highlights the power of grassroots advocacy and the commitment of AGD members to uphold the integrity of the dental profession.
Thank you to Montana AGD members for your dedication and prompt action!
