Description

Medical emergencies can — and do — occur in the dental office. Being prepared to recognize and manage emergencies is essential to the safety of all dental patients. This program will review preparation of the office and staff and the management of common emergency situations, including bronchospasm (asthma), seizures and chest pain.

Learning Objectives 

• List and discuss the four steps in office preparation for medical emergencies.
• List and discuss the indications for the eight basic emergency drugs.
• Discuss management of bronchospasm, seizures, angina and myocardial infarction.

Stanley F. Malamed, DDS, is a dentist anesthesiologist and emeritus professor of dentistry at the Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC (formerly the University of Southern California School of Dentistry).
