The current periodontal and peri-implant diagnostic classification system was released in 2018, but some practitioners have yet to adopt it. This course will review the rationale for the recommendations that were proposed to the previous 1999 classification and discuss the main changes that were introduced in the current system. Cases will be used to highlight the most common periodontal and peri-implant diagnoses that will be encountered in general dental practice.
- To explain the recommendations that arose from the 2017 World Workshop, as well as the main changes that were incorporated into the 2018 periodontal and peri-implant diagnostic classification system.
- To review examples of periodontal and peri-implant diagnoses most commonly seen in general dental practice.
Major (Maj) Jason Yee is a Dental Officer within the Royal Canadian Dental Corps. He enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces as a dental student at the University of Western Ontario and, following graduation, enjoyed postings in various Army, Air Force and Navy bases across Canada, as well as a deployment with the US Navy. Following his periodontal residency at the University of Toronto, he was posted to Canadian Forces Base Edmonton, where he continue to serve as the Western Regional Periodontist. In his spare time, he enjoys practicing martial arts, including T'ai Chi. Maj Yee is happily married to his wife, Jennifer, a general dentist, and they are the busy parents of two very young boys.
