TEETH Act Introduced in House of Representatives
On July 21, 2025, U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO-05), alongside Representatives Maxwell Frost (D-FL-10), Cleo Fields (D-LA-06), Shri Thanedar (D-MI-13), Wesley Bell (D-MO-01), Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ-05), Don Davis (D-NC), and Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.), introduced the Protect Our Treatment for Enamel, Erosion, and Tooth Health (TEETH) Act. This bill would require the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to consult and publish a rapid response evidence review by independent and nonpartisan experts at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) when proposing new guidance on community water fluoridation.

Impact on General Dentistry: On July 31, 2025, the AGD signed onto an Organized Dentistry Coalition letter to Representative Cleaver in support of the TEETH Act. The AGD supports efforts to ensure that any changes to fluoridation guidance are informed by evidence-based review and remains committed to advocating for the use of fluoride as a preventive measure against cavities and tooth decay.
