On June 20, 2025, AGD sent an Organized Dentistry Coalition letter urging the Department of Defense (DoD) to maintain current water fluoridation levels on overseas military bases. The AGD initiated letter highlights the role of water fluoridation as a cost-effective public health measure essential to preventing dental disease and supporting military readiness. Access to optimally fluoridated water remains a key preventive measure for military dependents living abroad, many of whom lack access to base dental clinics and rely on local providers for care. The coalition emphasized that reducing or eliminating fluoridation could lead to increased rates of dental disease, decreased military readiness, and greater dependence on foreign dental care systems.

Impact on General Dentistry: The AGD recognizes the importance of community water fluoridation in the prevention of cavities and tooth decay. Maintaining fluoridation on overseas bases helps protect the oral health of military families and supports the dental readiness of service members.
