Members Offer Feedback on Proposed New Models
Overall, the feedback reflects a variety of viewpoints. There was general agreement that the models could increase transparency. The models have the potential to better connect the board with the members. Respondents like having a streamlined, more flexible and responsive governance structure. At the same time, there were concerns about the role of the regional directors, the size of committees, the potential loss of member involvement, representation, and the loss of the House of Delegates.
Other comments included observations about the potential impact on inclusivity, decision-making efficiency, financial sustainability, political influences, and organizational dynamics. Some respondents reinforced the importance of adequate representation, a member-centric focus, essential nature of strategic planning, and professional development within the governance models. Concerns were raised about the balance of power, communication channels, and the overall effectiveness of the proposed changes in meeting the organization's goals and serving its diverse membership effectively.
The next step include taking all of these comments and generating a revised model that addresses both the advantages and disadvantages described in both the survey and the town halls. That model will be presented to the AGD Board in the next few weeks. A final model with supporting documentation is anticipated to go to the House of Delegates for their consideration in November.
