On July 24, 2024, AGD, alongside 17 other organizations, sent a letter of support to the sponsors of the Oral Health Products Inclusion Act (H.R. 8599). This legislation would allow funds from health savings accounts (HSAs) and flexible spending accounts (FSAs) to be used to purchase over-the-counter (OTC) oral health products, such as toothbrushes and floss. HSAs and FSAs are tax-exempt accounts offered by a growing number of employer-sponsored insurance (ESI) plans that allow employees to set aside pre-tax dollars to be spent on qualified medical expenses. By designating OTC oral health products as qualified medical expenses, this legislation could increase access to oral products that are foundational for oral health and overall wellbeing.

The letter is available here.

Impact on General Dentistry: AGD is proud to support legislation that would increase access to OTC oral health products and promote consumer choice. AGD thanks the cosponsors of H.R. 8599 for their support of oral health and will continue working with Congress to advocate for swift passage of this legislation.
