AGD-Backed Coalition Calls for Release of 2020 Surgeon General Report on Oral Health
AGD, along with allies from organized dentistry and other health stakeholders, sent a letter that was spearheaded by the American Association for Dental Research (AADR) to Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, M.D. on May 5, requesting a quick release of the pending 2020 Surgeon General's Report on Oral Health.
The 2020 report, which was previously expected to be released in late 2020, will document progress and challenges impacting oral health since 2000, when the landmark Surgeon General's report, "Oral Health in America", was published. Publication of the 2020 report has apparently been delayed due to the change in Presidential Administration.
Impact on General Dentistry: AGD is closely monitoring the status of the 2020 Surgeon General's Report on Oral Health, as AGD was one of the stakeholders from the oral health community engaged in providing input in the report's development. The report's findings stand to significantly impact the field of dentistry and the country's oral health, as they will serve as a guidepost for policymakers and officials at all levels of government.
