Soyna Kapoor, DDS
“Dentistry is amazing and provides a great career that allows us to combine art, service and science.”
Being a new dentist has its challenges. Soyna Kapoor, DDS, is doing her part to make it easier. As the chair of the AGD New Dentist Committee, she leads a group of young dentists who develop content and coursework, mentorship opportunities, and networking events to help new dentists succeed.
“Through Dr. Kapoor’s leadership as chair of the New Dentist Committee, she has been the driving force behind creating unique educational opportunities for a new class of general dentists,” said Travis Skodack, AGD manager of membership development. “She is a patient-focused practitioner, but, more importantly, Dr. Kapoor is also a peer-focused practitioner.”
Outside of her work on the New Dentist Committee, Kapoor volunteers her time at the Connecticut Mission of Mercy, a local annual gratis dental clinic. She’s also traveled abroad for a dental mission trip at a pediatric clinic in Guatemala.
“I was apprehensive as I had limited experience working with children and beginner-level Spanish, but a full immersion in a pediatric and Spanish-speaking setting was an excellent experience to improve my skills in both those fields,”
Kapoor said. Kapoor’s message for young dentists? Dentistry can offer you work-life balance, but you have to take it.
“Dentistry is amazing and provides a great career that allows us to combine art, service and science,” she said. “Ensure you are sleeping enough, drinking enough water, eating a balanced diet and moving your body. Dentistry can be tough physically, so being mindful of these areas can allow you to practice for as long as you like in a safe and productive manner.”
