Only five years after graduating from the University of Western Ontario in 2011, Sarah A. Mancuso, DDS, purchased her own practice. She first became involved with the Ontario AGD in 2010 as a student liaison. Though the demands of practice ownership are high, Mancuso makes it a point to invest in AGD — in fact, her leadership is making history in Ontario.

“Following in the footsteps of her father, Antonio Mancuso, DDS, MAGD, Sarah is very involved in promoting AGD and its mission, and, in 2020, she will become the first female president of the Ontario AGD,” said AGD Immediate Past President Neil J. Gajjar, DDS, MAGD, who is from Ontario.

“I am so proud to become the Ontario AGD’s first female president, which is one of my biggest accomplishments in dentistry thus far,” said Mancuso.

Mancuso also is editor-in-chief of Spectrum Young Dentist. She has lectured at the Ontario Dental Association’s New Dentist Symposium as well as at Niagara College. A community advocate, Mancuso belongs to a group of dentists who provide emergency on-call services to area patients with after-hours and weekend emergencies. She also gives back by helping kids adopt the foundations of good dental care early on.

“I live in a region that no longer has fluoridation in our water system, so I go to local schools during April’s Oral Health Month to educate students on the importance of proper oral care.”

She’s given a lot to dentistry — and dentistry has given a lot back to her.

“Dentistry has afforded me the flexibility to practice within my own small business, but also to be a full-time mom and raise my children,” Mancuso said. “It has allowed me to continue my intellectual growth, maintain personal relationships and be an active, helpful member of the community. Dentistry, as a whole, has given me a great sense of accomplishment.”
