Description
Ensuring long-term stability of conventional or implant-supported prosthetic replacements begins with the prevention of alveolar bone loss and the preservation of alveolar bone structure. Soft and hard tissue complications can compromise outcomes, leading to unsatisfactory tooth morphology, impaired phonetics, and decreased patient confidence. This course focuses not only on the technical aspects of ridge preservation and augmentation but also on the practical skills needed to effectively present and prepare cases.
With today’s new generation of materials, many defects can be treated predictably. In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore contemporary grafting materials, learn which defects can be reliably restored, and gain practical guidance on the indications and use of membranes. All procedures are performed on pig mandibles with instrumentation provided, offering an immersive, hands-on experience. This intensive training equips clinicians with skills they can immediately apply in their practice.
Learning Objectives
- Assess and plan for ridge preservation procedures through accurate diagnosis and comprehensive treatment planning.
- Select the most appropriate grafting materials based on patient-specific needs, defect characteristics, and clinical goals.
- Effectively utilize membranes to optimize graft stability, integration, and healing outcomes.
- Design and execute soft tissue flaps tailored to each procedure taught, ensuring predictable surgical results.

Speaker Bio
Jim Grisdale, DDS, Dip Perio ABP, Dip Prosth ABP, is board-certified in periodontics and prosthodontics. He practices part time and is a mentor for periodontology and implantology study clubs. He was previously a full-time faculty member at Loma Linda University in California, teaching the graduate periodontics program. He lectures extensively in the United States, Canada, Southeast Asia and Europe. He has published articles on dentin sensitivity, implants, bone regeneration and soft-tissue periodontic adhesive, and he is a member of several professional societies.
