The influence of irradiance on microhardness, degree of conversion (DC), and polymerization shrinkage on nanofilled and microhybrid composite resins was investigated. After light curing, nanofilled specimens showed greater hardness than did microhybrid specimens. The DC of the microhybrid composite was greater than that of the nanofilled material. Irradiance did not influence polymerization shrinkage.

Early presentation of gingival squamous cell carcinoma (GSCC) is at times misdiagnosed. Records of 32 GSCC patients who underwent an invasive dental procedure (IDP) before cancer diagnosis were compared to those of 26 GSCC patients who did not. Disease-specific mortality was comparable; however, surgical treatment was more extensive in the IDP group.

Subjects were assessed and given a questionnaire to measure their self-perception of variables related to dental esthetics, including the Psychosocial Impact of Dental Aesthetics Questionnaire (PIDAQ). High PIDAQ scores indicate a negative self-image. Subjects with higher PIDAQ scores tended to have higher levels of caries and gingival inflammation.
