    A 9-year-old patient with chronic pancreatic insufficiency, which can produce changes in craniofacial growth and development, was treated for posterior crossbite and anterior open bite. The dentition relapsed posttreatment, confirming the difficulty of promoting ossification in the median palatine suture.

    A study evaluating the pH effect of acidic or neutral doxycycline solutions on the immediate dentin bond strength of a total-etch adhesive system found that the application of doxycycline did not influence bond strength.

    A split-mouth, double-blind trial evaluated the effects of a surface sealant on the clinical performance of Class I composite resin restorations. Evaluations of marginal integrity, marginal discoloration, anatomical form, and secondary caries at 12 months revealed that the sealant did not improve clinical performance of the restorations.

    The influence of irradiance on microhardness, degree of conversion (DC), and polymerization shrinkage on nanofilled and microhybrid composite resins was investigated. After light curing, nanofilled specimens showed greater hardness than did microhybrid specimens. The DC of the microhybrid composite was greater than that of the nanofilled material. Irradiance did not influence polymerization shrinkage.

    The loss of tooth structure from maxillary and mandibular molars after cavity preparation was evaluated. Class II mesio-occlusodistal cavities for both indirect and direct restorations were prepared to one-half, one-third, or one-quarter the buccolingual interocclusal distance. Fracture resistance was lower and weight loss was greater in all indirect preparations.

    Early presentation of gingival squamous cell carcinoma (GSCC) is at times misdiagnosed. Records of 32 GSCC patients who underwent an invasive dental procedure (IDP) before cancer diagnosis were compared to those of 26 GSCC patients who did not. Disease-specific mortality was comparable; however, surgical treatment was more extensive in the IDP group.

    Subjects were assessed and given a questionnaire to measure their self-perception of variables related to dental esthetics, including the Psychosocial Impact of Dental Aesthetics Questionnaire (PIDAQ). High PIDAQ scores indicate a negative self-image. Subjects with higher PIDAQ scores tended to have higher levels of caries and gingival inflammation.

    The purpose of this study was to establish norms of photogrammetric soft tissue profile analysis for Persian adults. Statistically significant sexual dimorphism was found for the nasofrontal, nasal, nasal dorsum, cervicomental, facial convexity, and total facial convexity angles.

    When a silorane-based composite resin was compared to conventional composite resins before and after accelerated artificial aging, the compressive strength of the silorane-based composite was among the lowest obtained, both before and after aging. The aging process did not influence compressive strength.

    Oral mucoceles, characterized by accumulation of mucus following rupture of a minor salivary gland duct, are common, but congenital mucoceles are rare. This case report describes a congenital mucocele of the lower lip in a 3-month-old infant.

    The properties of 2 new dual-cure, bulk-fill restorative composites were compared to those of a hybrid composite. Compared to the hybrid composite, the dual-cure composites had unlimited depth of cure, similar fracture toughness and porosity formation, and greater polymerization shrinkage and microleakage.

    This study on 60 bovine teeth evaluated the influence of alveolar bone level and type of cement on pull-out bond strength between fiber-reinforced composite posts and root dentin. Neither alveolar bone level nor type of cement had an effect on the pull-out bond strength.

    In a study evaluating the efficacy of different techniques for removal of combined calcium hydroxide [Ca(OH)2] and chlorhexidine paste from root canals, remnants of Ca(OH)2 were found in all experimental groups, regardless of the removal technique used. Overall, the NaviTip FX irrigation needle technique was more efficient in removing Ca(OH)2.

    Microhardness and surface roughness of resin-modified glass ionomers (RMGIs) and a composite resin (CR) with or without sealant were assessed before and after aging. After aging of unsealed specimens, roughness values were significantly higher in RMGIs but not CR. Sealant groups showed increased roughness after aging.

    After many unsuccessful attempts to resolve an endodontic infection in a maxillary canine, a microbial culture of the root canal detected the presence of Staphylococcus epidermidis. An antibiogram determined the best drug combination to control the infection.

    The influence of sealant on the color stability of nanofilled (NF) and microhybrid (MH) composite resins was evaluated in vitro. Sealant improved the color stability of specimens immersed in coffee. Unsealed MH specimens had better color stability than unsealed NF specimens.
