Dr Chu is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Faculty of Dentistry, The University of Hong Kong. He has joined the university since 1992 and is the former Dental Surgeon in-charge of the Dental Unit, Health Service before he has become a full-time teacher. He is Assistant Dean (Research & Innovation) and Admission Tutor (BDS Admission) and Tutor for elective studies (overseas). Dr Chu is a registered specialist in family dentistry in Hong Kong.
Dr Chu provides comprehensive dental care to his patients. He also teaches general dentistry and performs research. He serves in the editorial board of Journal of Investigative and Clinical Dentistry, Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dentistry and American Journal of TROPICAL MEDICINE & Public Health. His research interests include caries prevention and management, clinical uses of fluorides and community dental care. He has published more than 100 journal articles, reports and conference papers.
Dr Chu was conferred Bachelor of Dental Surgery, Master of Dental Surgery in Pediatric Dentistry and Doctor of Philosophy by the University of Hong Kong. He also obtained a Post-graduate Diploma in Dental Public Health. Dr Chu is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (in both general stream and dental public health), Fellow in Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Master of the Academy of General Dentistry and Diplomate of the American Board of General Dentistry.
Dr Chu married Shela and has two daughters, Samantha and Stephanie. He likes swimming and Bible reading. He served in AWANA children ministry for 10 years. He and his family are Evangelical Christians and attend Alliance International Church. They serve in Christian small group fellowship, and have joined missionary visits to Mainland China, Myanmar, Cambodia and the Philippines.
