Shari Hyder
Shari Hyder, DMD, MAGD
Regional Director, Region 4

Dr. Hyder began this role in July 2016. As a regional director of a single state region, she hopes to encourage the present board of New Jersey AGD (NJAGD) to continue their enthusiasm from the 2016 Leadership Development Symposium. In addition, she hopes to assist NJAGD’s present board members with increasing AGD’s membership by helping member and non-member dentists understand why AGD is so important to the general dentist and how it differs from the ADA.

Since 1987, Dr. Hyder has been heavily involved in constituent leadership roles. She started in New York AGD and then continued to New Jersey AGD. In NJAGD, she has held several leadership roles including committee chairs and board member positions such as President. Dr. Hyder has also served on the Group Benefits Council twice for a total of 11 years. A fun fact about Dr. Hyder is that, aside from four she was unable to attend due to personal circumstances, she has attended every single HOD meeting since 1985. Her motivation to be a leader comes from her father, NJAGD past president, and her love for dentistry.

An AGD member since 1985, Dr. Hyder graduated from Temple University School of Dentistry in 1986 and began her general practice residency in 1987 at Montefiore Hospital in Bronx, NY. Including the time spent working in her father’s office as a dental assistant, Dr. Hyder has been involved in dentistry since 1973. Currently, Dr. Hyder practices in Oaklyn, NJ. In her spare time, Dr. Hyder loves to travel. She has visited most of the states in the USA, and many countries in South America and Europe. In addition, she is an avid reader.

If she could offer any advice to leaders, she would advise them to carve out their passion and follow it — whether it be through advocacy, dental education, or membership. Her main advice is to get involved.
