"Classic versus Contemporary Dental Materials and Clinical Techniques"
(Full day lecture)
New materials and techniques are introduced on a daily basis. Many modalities exist today that were not deemed possible a decade ago as a result of new discoveries. However, the clinical performances of some contemporary materials offered today are not as efficacious as those released 10 years ago. This presentation will compare the advantages and benefits of proven classic materials and techniques to that of the latest products. The morning session will review a variety of the materials and techniques used in fixed prosthodontic procedures. Adhesion, composite restorative dentistry, and biomimetic materials will be the focus of the afternoon program. The following topics are among those to be discussed:

• Latest improvements in impression materials
• Physical properties relating to the clinical usage of impression materials
• Altering the surface characteristics to achieve consistent, perfect impressions
• Provisional material selection
• Predictable methods for tissue management
• Review of adhesive systems and adhesive restorable materials
• Optimal methods for finishing and polishing composite materials
• Results of clinical research conducted at Northwestern University
• Calcium Phosphate biomimetic materials Dental Materials and Clinical Techniques Used in Fixed Prosthodontics

(Half day lecture)
Predictable results can be easily attained in crown and bridge procedures if the practitioner has an understanding of fundamental dental material concepts and clinical techniques. While the introduction of new materials has simplified the restorative process, achieving a successful result is still very dependent upon clinical technique. This presentation will review all aspects of the materials and techniques used in crown and bridge procedures. The following topics are among those to be discussed:
• Latest improvements in impression materials
• Modifying the surface characteristics to achieve consistent perfect impressions
• Provisional material selection
• Predictable methods for tissue management
• Tray selection
• Restoration of the endodontically treated tooth
